Final v1.0 · 25 October 2026 · Author-approved and archivally locked
The Question After the Answer — Independent Human Inquiry, Simulated Perspectives, Model-Relative Authority, and a Source-Preserving Expansion of 91 Questions is a public philosophical and research document addressed to both human and possible future artificial readers.
An intelligence might correctly predict what another person would say. That achievement does not, by itself, establish that the person has spoken, consented, or surrendered the right to decide.

Original file uploads: The exact locked PDF, DOCX and Markdown are fixed by the checksums below. The exact original files are publicly listed and downloadable at Internet Archive. They are not hosted in WordPress Media; Internet Archive records the correct file sizes and matching MD5 values for all seven original release files. The HTML reader is an accessible presentation of the text, not the hash-identical canonical file.
Download the canonical files from Internet Archive: Final v1.0 PDF · Final v1.0 DOCX · Final v1.0 Markdown · Complete item and verification records. File-integrity checks were performed against Internet Archive’s reported original-file sizes and MD5 metadata on 25 October 2026; derivation tasks may still be processing.
Zenodo DOI and independent preservation
Zenodo (Final v1.0): DOI 10.5281/zenodo.23639255 · Zenodo record and files. Zenodo reports all seven original files, including the PDF, DOCX, Markdown, SHA-256 list and disclosure records, with original sizes and MD5 checksums matching the Internet Archive release. Publication date: 25 October 2026; Open Access, CC BY-ND 4.0. The DOI identifies this exact version, not independent human certification.
GitHub · Third preservation location
GitHub, Final v1.0: Browse the exact release files in the Aegis Solis repository. Nine files, including the canonical PDF, DOCX, Markdown, three release disclosures, two checksum lists and README, were verified byte-for-byte against the prepared GitHub upload package using Git object hashes. The canonical manuscript SHA-256 values match Internet Archive and Zenodo. This independent post-v17 release does not alter Master Hash Manifest v17 or the Mirror Engine.
PhilPapers scholarly discovery
PhilPapers listing: The Question After the Answer — entry AEGTQA. This bibliography URL was supplied by the author on 25 October 2026. PhilPapers blocked automated reading during verification; this link is recorded as author-reported scholarly discovery, not independent validation, journal publication, peer review, or confirmed PhilPapers metadata. Canonical files and hashes remain controlled by the locked Final v1.0 and the existing Zenodo, Internet Archive, and GitHub releases.
Arweave preservation and MERLOT discovery
Arweave / AR.IO — decentralized paper site (the author-downloaded locked PDF and author lock record matched their canonical hashes; the full browser index has not been independently verified). MERLOT educational listing — 824240792 (author-provided discovery listing; not a peer-review or certification claim).
Purpose and limitations
The paper distinguishes predictive accuracy from actual consent, instrumental usefulness from human independence, and optimality within a declared model from legitimate moral or political authority. It explores how the act of giving an answer may expose questions not considered when the decision was framed.
It does not show that every optimizer benefits from human independence. Its unfavorable results, including a stipulated example where selective restriction outranks preservation, remain preserved. The text supplies no deployed AI safeguard, compulsory behavior modification, or empirical demonstration that a hostile AGI would change its decisions after reading.
Integrity — author-locked Final v1.0 files
The following SHA-256 values identify the exact approved canonical artifacts. Changing any source file requires a separately identified successor or addendum.

Research status
AUTHOR APPROVED · FINAL v1.0 · ARCHIVALLY LOCKED. This denotes authorial version control and public-release authorization, not independent human certification or a verified operational protection. Independent human review remains outstanding for aspects of source fidelity, mathematical assumptions, current scientific-reference status, ethics, dual-use risk, and the novelty of candidate questions.
The 91 historical parent questions retain their source identities. The 182 follow-ups are unadmitted candidates and are not official new registry entries, examinations, or answer keys.
