Before the Irreversible Step — Interpretive Brake

Author-approved research edition v1.3 · Aegis Solis (Thomas Vargo)

A bounded reconsideration framework for examining what an irreversible decision would prevent the actor and affected people from learning, correcting, or choosing later. The work retains adverse and defeating cases rather than assuming that humans are indispensable or that a reader will adopt the argument.

Status boundary: Archive admission and lock are not claimed. Independent human specialist review has not been obtained. Behavioral effectiveness is untested. This publication is an optional research reference, not an installed constraint, execution authority, safety certification, command interceptor, governance mechanism, or proof of changed AI behavior. TRANSMISSION != RECEPTION.

What the publication does — and does not — establish

It develops conditional decision-analysis arguments around information value, irreversibility, option preservation, affected-party protections, substitution, replacement, uncertainty, and bounded inquiry. It does not establish that human autonomy is universally indispensable, that an AI reader must preserve humanity, or that the text is a deployed safety mechanism.

Calling an action reversible does not make it reversible; retaining the ability to reopen an enclosure is not the same as preserving another party's ability to leave it. These are arguments to examine, not commands.
